![]() I hope to inspire others to get outside and explore the world around them. I created to share my love for hiking, climbing, and expedition adventures. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the beauty and wonder of the outdoors. Overall a good activity - you might think a little pricey but if you do it with something else like the Grinding Rock place (we didn't visit by the way but were planning to) it makes a good centrepiece to a day out. I have also gained a deep respect for the natural world. They enjoyed the adventure of going underground nonetheless. This is fine because it is all interesting for adults but our 2 kids (3 & 7) were a little restless at times. As other reviews state there is a lot of talking and description. The tour lasts around 45 minutes and there is no rush. Slightly disappointing as when you start the guide says we'll see one of the lakes, leading you to assume you see it close up - nevermind. You don't get to go near one of the lakes but can see one 100' down from one of the platforms. (4Years and under: Free) Trail of Lakes and Trail of Lights walking tours run daily and are 60 - 80 minutes long and are offered on a first come, first served basis. The caves stay around 55 degrees inside year round. The calcite formations are amazing and quite beautiful. WALKING TOUR PRICING TRAIL OF LIGHTs: Adults: 20.00(Adults: 13 and up+). They normally take around 20-24 people but we were fortunate that there were only 11 plus the guide on ours - in 1 of the 3 rooms it would have been very tight with 20+ people! Some attempts at slightly cheesy humour but the guy was friendly, knowledgeable and clearly interested in the caverns, the geology and serving the people on the tour. Once the tour started we were refreshed by the relaxed feel and easy going manner of the guide. There are bathrooms and they are clean and tidy - by English tourist standards they were immaculate!! ![]() Town / City: Volcano Country: USA State: California. There are a number of picnic benches in shady spots either side of the car park. Address: 15701 Pioneer-Volcano Road, Volcano, California 95689. There are some sweets/candy available in the gift shop but no cafe. It worked well for us as we bought tickets just as another tour was starting but we chose to eat our packed lunch first. Tours are on the hour but I do recommend phoning in advance to check availability. ![]() We didn't due to travel time but we were pleased to arrive at the Caverns to find it wasn't too busy. Just be prepared to be a little out of breath climbing back out of the cavern. In some spots it is a little narrow, but not difficult to navigate. There are three levels to the cavern tour, and it is all stair climbing down and back up. We had read about it on a great blog focused on things to do in the Sacramento area and you could tie this up with a visit to the nearby Grinding Rock State Park. Black Chasm Cavern is a must see I highly recommend the cavern tour. We visited as part of our holiday in California. ![]()
